HISTORY

          Swami Dayanand Hospital was established in the year 1963 for providing Medical facilities to the resident of trans Yumna area and eastern outstroke of the Union Territory around Delhi.  Earlier this hospital was also known as Shahdara General Hospital.  This hospital is  spreaded on 19 acres of land.  The sanction bed strength is of 250 beds.

                   There are different specialties viz. H.D.U, General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedic, Dentistry, Eye, E.N.T., Obst. & Gynae, Anaesthology, Pathology & Radiology besides Casualty Department, Blood Bank, Thallasemia Day Care Centre  and Medical Record Department.

                    This hospital also runs special clinic viz.  Leprosy clinic, V.D. clinic, Vitiligo clinic,   Cardiac Clinic, Diabetic Clinic, Metabolic clinic, Well Baby Clinic, Infertility Clinic, PNC clinic  as well as Immunization Clinic, Adolescent clinic, Antenatal Clinic, Glaucoma Clinic and Cancer clinic.  All these clinics are in addition to the routine O.P.D. and indoor services.

CASUALTY

Casualty of the  Hospital is a Separate department comprising of 15 bedded ward and  is manned by 1 C.M.O and supported by  EMO (Medical), EMO (Pead.), EMO (Anesthesia), EMO (Gynae), and EMO (Surgery) after 4 P.M. till 9 A.M.  on all working hours and from 9 AM to 9 PM on all holidays and Sundays. Dressing room is manned by a dresser.

Emergency X-ray are done round the clock and  E.C.G. is done till 8 P.M.

Casualty is dealing with all type of medical legal cases, round the clock, pertaining to 6 Police Station namely Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Coly., Krishna Nagar, Preet Vihar, Anand Vihar and Vivek Vihar.

Since hospital does not have a burn ward we refer burn patients to G.T.B. Hospital.          Casualty does not have the facility of I.C.U. hence Cardiac Cases in Acute State are referred to Cardiac Centre after giving first aid. There are no facilities for post mortem in this hospital. Poisoning cases are referred to GTB Hospital after preparing MLC, and first aid. Casualty is assisted by one ambulance fitted with oxygen cylinder and other emergency medical cases.

Blood Bank

        The SDN Hospital Blood Bank is a licensed blood bank. The blood bank services are available round the clock to meet the requirement of its patients for whole blood, red cell concentrate, and fresh frozen plasma.      This bank works in close co-ordination with RBTC (East), GTB Hospital.

         This bank authorized for collection, storage, mandatory screening and issue of compatible blood to its patients.

         The requisition for the elective surgery is received one day prior to surgery. In life  saving conditions blood units can be issued within ½ hours.

          Urgent test reports like Coagulation factors including PT, PTTK and INR are reported within 2 hours.

Round the clock emergency facility for obstetric cases available

C.T. SCAN

          CT Scan services are on Franchise basis with M/s Hart Medical Centre, 14/407, Faiz Road, Karol Bagh, New Delhi.

C.T. Scan charges:-

       With the condition that 20% of the investigation to be done free of cost on the recommendation of the HOD / MS & department of Radiology’s for poor & deserving hospital patients.

Medicine Department

         Medicine deptt is being run by 3 medical specialties, 4 Senior Residents, 5 Jr. Residents and 10 medical officers.  There are 40 beds in medical ward (24 for male and 16 for females). There are 2 units for indoor cases. Both units have OPD on alternate days. Unit No.1 runs OPD on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Unit No.2 runs OPD on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

          Special clinic runs by this department is Metabolic Clinic (Thursday), Cardiac Clinic (Wednesday), Skin (Venereal Disease Clinic Tuesday. Leprosy Clinic Wednesday and STD clinic runs on Thursday). P.F.T. on Friday, T.M.T. on Friday, Gastroscopy on Monday. DOT centre runs daily.

          CCU and super specialties services are not available in this hospital.

Eye Department

        Eye department is running OPD from 9 am to 1 pm daily except Friday and special clinics ie. Glaucoma Clinic runs from 2 pm to 4 pm on every Monday and Laser Clinic from 2 pm to 4 pm on every Wednesday.

Orthopedic Department

        Out patient consultation is available every day from 9 am to 4 pm except Wednesday.

All kind of orthopedic operation done by appointment.

Minor O.T. is available in OPD for out door patients.

Physiotherapy facilities are available from 9 am to 4 pm daily.

Pediatric Department

There are two wards under this department i.e Children Ward with 22 beds and New Children Ward with 15 beds are available in which 5 beds are for new born babies (Nursery).

Immunization is given to children from 9 am to 1 pm.

Respiratory clinic (Asthma) for children is running on Thursday from 2  to 4 pm. Thalassemia  day care centre is also running under this department.

Adolescent clinic runs on Thursday and Friday.

Lactation counseling (Breast Feeding) is given on Friday.

Obst. & Gynae Department.

Daily check of patient of ANC & gynae cases done from 9 am to 4 pm

Ultrasound facility by radiology deptt. is available for patients.

Special infertility clinic on every Mondya from 2 pm to 4 pm

Post partam clinic on Wednesday from 2pm to 4 pm

Pap smear screening on Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm

All family planning operation and all gynecological surgeries including endoscopies surgery are done.

VCTC center runs for all antenatal patients.

BIRTH & DEATH CERTIFICATE

          Birth & Death registration is done on-line and certificates are  issued to all death and birth occurred in this hospital under section 12.,free of cost. These certificates issued daily from 9.30 am to 12.30 p.m. within the limit of one year from the date of occurrence of the event. 

GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL SYSTEM

          At different points in the hospital campus, there are complaint/Suggestion Boxes besides information/instructions board including Telephone numbers to contact for redressal of the grievances.  Addl. M.S. is head of the Grievance Redresal Committee.  All the complaints are attended properly and thoroughly with proper outcome.
