A 1155 bedded modern tertiary referral hospital for Respiratory diseases & TB which runs under over all control of M.C.D. It is the largest hospital of it’s kind in Asia spread over an area of 78 acres.
To commemorate the silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George, the hospital was started in 1935 as Silver Jubilee TB hospital at the ceremonial railway station that was specially built for King George when he was crowned the King & Emperor of India in 1910. The coronation grounds near the hospital in Burari still bears an inscription and statues of the royal Durbar. It was later renamed after the first President of our republic.
1. Indoor beds- for TB patients & non-TB respiratory diseases patients.-1155 beds. The following facilities are available for indoor patients –
· DOTS
· Separate ward for MDR TB patients
· Separate wards for TB with Diabetes, MCD & ESI employees and jail inmates.
· Nebulisation.
· Non-invasive ventilation.
· Rigid and fiber optic bronchoscopy.
· Inhaled medications.
· Management of Respiratory emergencies.
2. Staff and referral OPD, MDR clinic, non-TB respiratory diseases clinic.
3. Surgery-
· General Surgeries like Laprotomy, Intestinal resection, Lymph node biopsy etc for extra pulmonary TB.
· Thoracic surgery- Decortication, Thoracoplasty, Rib resections.
· Minor procedures- FNAC, Pleural Biopsy, Fluid aspiration, Lymph node biopsy, Intercostal intubations etc.
4. Pulmonary Function testing – Complete.(except exercise testing).
5. Radiology - complete chest imaging (except CT), special investigations with Barium and IVP facilities & whole body ultrasound with image guided procedures like guided aspirations and biopsy.
6. Laboratory –
· Blood investigations- Complete hemogram, Blood biochemistry (LFT,KFT, Sugar, Uric Acid, Lipid profile, LDH), pyogenic culture.
· Urine- Routine and microscopic examinations, pyogenic culture and sensitivity.
· Sputum- AFB direct smear, Pyogenic culture, Mycobacterial culture and sensitivity to both first and second line drugs & malignant cell cytology.
· Body fluid examination- Complete cytology, Biochemistry (including ADA & LDH) & Microbiology .
· Histopathology.
7. Doctors library with all the latest books on respiratory medicine, general medicine, radiology, microbiology and pathology with facilities for audiovisual presentations and internet.
8. Voluntary counseling and testing center for HIV.
9. Training center for RNTCP both for Doctors and paramedical staff (recognized by the GNCTD).
10. Social welfare center for providing vocational training for poor patients and crèche facility for children of admitted patients.
11. Kingsway Chest Center (KCC) which is a District TB clinic of a defined area responsible for the implementation of all the RNTCP related activities in the area.
